Artist's Statement:
I work as an Installation Artist as well as in the mediums of watercolor, acrylic and the Quilp. A Quilp is a sewn sculpture containing paint, found objects, photographs and embroidery thread. I originally designed the Quilp to be a sewn painting. Thus quilt with a "p." As with all art the art guides the artist as much as the artist guides the art, and the definition continues to expand.

As an artist I explore the notion that the body knows more than the mind. I am interested in the individuality of our bodies. I learned through education in movement and yoga that we are made up of emotions and history that are embedded inside the web of our muscles and ligaments. This energy informs us in our daily lives.

In the Quilps, the embroidery thread represents intuitive body energy as well as the things in life that we're tied to. I also explore the sewn nature of this dance-like physicality in my paintings. In the Chair Quilps, I employ sexuality as the power of women as well as the source of our objectification. Each chair is her own woman. There is an object to resemble the spine and chest, our heart center and the place from which we move.

My art began its evolution intuitively from my life and body. I am interested in what I call the happening. I work in the space between my ideas and the moment when the painting, Quilp, Installation or work of art creates itself.
